“The jury was struck by how such a simple building does so many things right. There are genuine interpretations of contextual and historic building traditions in the Southern Vernacular, the front porch and shutters being the most obvious. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness of purpose and flexibility result in a building that feels comfortable in the environment and folks will, likewise, feel comfort. The community center embodies the notion of storytelling from the past while writing stories of the community for eons to come.”
